Weak Week

Eleven eleven said the clock as I pulled it around
the foreign days and understanding
a way out would be nice,
I’ll have your good advice
went up the block
making the scream 12 after
some days the walls look greener
(cause they can fetch a dime)
hung, unsafe for days you can’t be weaker waiting
and even if bugs turn into people who ask
‘are you all right?’
say yes and smile
it’s now the outcome of every day,
weaker days await.

Even if the bugs turn to people who ask
“Are you all right?”
Just say yes and smile.
You’ve found the outcome of every day.
Weaker days await.

Some days the wall look greener
(cause they can fetch a dime).
Hung, unsafe for days you can’t be weaker waiting.
Even if the bugs turn to people who ask
“Are you all right?”
Just say yes and smile.
You’ve found the outcome of every day,
Weaker days await.

This is one of my favorite Alkaline Trio songs ever. I love the lyrics, the beats, everything. Unfortuntaley, there is only like, one released recording of it because it’s written by their former drummer, Glenn Porter. He is also credited for creating their ever-so-popular heart and skull logo. Glenn, at one point, was the drummer for another band I love, 88 Fingers Louie (obviously, this man rules). Haha.. but anyway, back to the song..

Weaker Week was part of the Trio’s first, original demo that also included the tracks Sundials, 97 and Nose Over Tail. These are tracks made before the band decided to go crazy, sell out, and abandon their original sound. Ha ha.. harsh, I know. Don’t get me wrong, I will always have a spot in my “music heart” for Alkaline Trio, but I am dissapointed at the crap they’re putting out now. It just doesn’t even sound like them, and I know people change and develope but come on! You go from raw, original music to… pop, dancey, sounds like everyone else kind of music. It’s actually very sad. Or well.. sad to me! =P I know there are a lot of old Alkaline Trio fans that agree with me.

Goddamnit is one of my favorite albums of all time. For the album’s ten year anniversary, a DELUXE edition was released, which had additional, bonus tracks added (including Weak Week). I recommend purchasing this album, whether you have the original or not. The sound is remastered and it’s just a CD that everyone should own!! Good stuff.

Anywho- so end of the story: Weak Week is an awesome song that you will probably never get to hear live or hear a better recorded version of. The band would have to pay royalties to Glenn, since he owns the rights to the song, and I guess they just aren’t willing to do that. Boo!
