Hailing from Minnesota, this five-piece known as For All Those Sleeping (also commonly referred to as FATS) recently released their debut album, Cross Your Fingers on Fearless Records.

I have to first admit that I actually like the album cover. Â I mean, you’re either Team Vampire or Team Zombie, and as much as I get a girl hard on from True Blood, I think I am still Team Zombie all the way. So, yay for you, FATS! Â Now onto the important issues at hand: the music.

It’s definitely typical Fearless style, with the hardcore screaming mixed with melodic harmonies, yadda yadda. Â I’d say FATS mostly resembles that of Fearless veterans Alesana, and I’m often caught thinking of Confide (Tragic Hero Records) as well.

While they had a fairly successful EP released independently, I think their debut full-length definitely says more about the band. Â They have upbeat tempos with catchy (and often silly) lyrics, so if you’re a fan of the screamo genre, you will definitely dig this.

While tracks like I Hate To See You Go are a little cheesy for my taste, darker songs like I’m Not Dead Yet are a bit more my style. Â Although… who are we kidding here? Â I listen to The Meatmen and Leftover Crack, so I might tend to be a little biased if it’s not pure hate rock. YeaaaYUHHHHH.

For a debut album, FATS has done a great job of mixing metaphors with blunt lyrics (like from the tracks Favorite Liar and He’s Dead Because Mommy Killed Him), and have mixed energetic/pop with hardcore sounding tunes. Â I won’t say it’s original, but it’s done well.
