There are many supergroups out there today, but few have caught my attention as much as Orbs. You’ve got a little Between the Buried and Me (Dan), Fear Before the March of Flames (Adam and Clayton), and Cradle of the Filth (Ashley). Metal noms. They’re about to release their debut album, Asleep Next to Science on Equal Vision Records. BOOM.
Track List:
1. | “Sayer of the Law” | |
2. | “A Man of Science” | |
3. | “Megaloblastic Madness”
4. | “The Northwestern Bearitories: a) We the Animal”
5. | “The Northwestern Bearitories: b) Kid Cancer”
6. | “People Will Read Again”
7. | “Something Beautiful”
8. | “Lost at Sea” | |
9. | “Eclipsical” |
This is an album that deserves a sincere listen, but make sure you put aside a moment (or ten…), because tracks such as People Will Read Again are over ten minutes long.  This [long tracks] is a common trait of Between the Buried and Me (Victory Records), guitarist Dan Briggs’ other band.  Something great about Orbs is it seems like each member brings unique characteristics from their other bands.  I am NOT an artsy-fartsy person by any means, but it’s bands like Orbs that I consider to be very artistic in addition to being musically gifted. PS. I still hate hippies.
When trying to compare their sound to an existing band, the first think I think of Placebo on a mix of acid and steroids…. a unique vocalist with trippy riffs that can barely be identified as any one genre (loveeeeee that). Â Really, Orbs is original enough to safely say they don’t really sound similar to anyone that comes rights to my head, which is such a rare thing to find in music now a days.
My favorite tracks are Lost at Sea and Sayer of the Law (great track to start off the album, for sure), so check the album out when it drops August 17th, and see if they’re YOUR favorite tooooooooo!!!!
