Scream Queens is an American reality series on VH1 where 10 unknown actresses compete for a role in the film Saw VI. James Gunn directs contestants during acting challenges, Shawnee Smith (star of SAW series) acts as a mentor, and John Homa also provides instruction — and all three also act as judges. The show was announced in June 2008 and debuted October 20, 2008 on VH1 and is on Monday’s at 10/9c.

I didn’t think I would get into this show very much, however I did want to check it out because I am a fan of the SAW movies. Of all the reality shows on TV today, I have to say that this prize has to be one of the best. Obviously, most people would want a money prize- but the winner of this gets a guarunteed “break out” role in a movie that may not hit number one, but it’s a movie series that is very well-known. Many actresses would take that opportunity over money any day. Plus, if you think about all the reality shows that have no real prize at all- just a dating show in which the couple’s very rarely stay together (there’s only one Trista and Ryan!).

I have always been a fan of horror movies. A lot of people like being scared! The feeling you get when you watch a seriously scary movie is unlike any other you’re likely to experience in your day-to-day life. I think that’s a large appeal to the genre. This show is interesting because you get to actually see someone go from their normal self, to trying to portray anything from being scared to being possessed. All of the contestants on the show are struggling actresses, although one is actually a child star from a Nickelodian show.

The season finale is this Monday night. Three contestants are left and now we finally get to see who will get the break out role in SAW XI. Check it out!!!
