Semi-Permanent Tattoos?

Yup! New tattoo inks are being developed that make removal quick and painless! I figured it would inevitable that technology would allow this to happen, and I’m very curious about it!

Supposedly due out this fall, new ink will allow for a removal process much easier than the current laser removal option now.

The Associated Press reports, “The permanent but removable ink is made by storing dye in microscopic capsules that will stay in the skin for good. But if that butterfly tattoo on the small of your back starts looking lame, it can be zapped away with a single laser treatment that is simpler and less painful than the barrage of treatments now needed.”

Sounds good to me! Now I won’t have to put so much thought into my tattoos! :) Ha ha.. okay so maybe I’ll still put timely thought into them, but it’s still good news. My system now is to decide on something for sure and then wait about a year, and if I still want it then, then I get it! Or if I can, I’ll tack a picture, drawing, whatever, of what I want, up somewhere that I see it several times a day, and if I get tired of looking at it, I end up not getting it, but if I love it, even after a while, then I’m all set.

Luckily, the artist I go to is fairly busy so, my appointments are normally set weeks in advance, which gives me more time to let it soak in and be sure that I’m getting what I want, where I want it.

However, while this may seem like a great developement to someone like myself, there are skeptics out there that don’t think this new ink will be successful.

MSNBC reports, “Some enthusiasts say getting inked without the lifetime commitment wouldn’t be appealing. Those in the industry are also skeptical, especially since the company making the dye says it will cost considerably more than a regular tattoo.”

I figured this new ink would likely cost more than regular ink because.. well, come on. Everything’s about money and if something “new” is coming out, it’s likely to cost more than the old one.  I mean.. every time a new Playstation comes out, it’s not going to get cheaper and cheaper, is it? It’s going to get better and better and is likely to keep increasing in price. It doesn’t mean people won’t buy them! =) I’m more of an xbox 360  and Wii person myself…

Anyway, also commenting on the topic is someone already in the tattoo removal business; Jerry Lorito, who’s vice president of Tat2BeGone based out of Costa Mesa, CA. He says, “I don’t know anyone who would pay more for a tattoo where their thought is, ‘Maybe one day I’m going to remove this.”

I definitely get what he’s saying, but coming from my perspective, it would just make someone feel less apprehensive about going “under the needle” and getting a tattoo, versus one that IF removed, would be very costly and painful.

I understand that with most new technology comes at least some controversy.  I just don’t see what the big deal is with all these articles saying crap like, “What’s the point of a removable tattoo?” I think that people should do whatever the hell they want, and they shouldn’t be judged over the fact that they choose to get ink that is permanent, but easily removed. I am someone who is extremely indecisive, yet at the same time I’ve very impulsive. Sometimes people are timid about the thought of getting inked because it is so expensive and painful to remove if they do end up regretting it. This causes some people to NEVER be tattooed, and I think that’s a shame. If you really want something, you should do it.

That fact this ink is much easier to remove it GREAT for people who are worried about getting their first tattoo. I mean, they could get it, love it forever, and then get more and never have to remove or cover up any of them! Or, they may get one, hate it and decide they never want another again and then easily remove the one they got in the first place. What’s wrong with that?

I think it’s a great advance in tattoos. Especially with the economy being this way, people getting laid off and whatnot. Someone may have a job that is okay with tattoos, but then get fired and have trouble finding a new one due to their visible ink.  Reading up about all of this only hardens my opinion that most people are close minded. Everyone wants to act like they’re open to new things and well.. open minded! When in fact, many people are set in their ways and opinions and won’t budge when it comes down to it.  As I’ve said before.. it’s sad, but true. I think people should lay off a little bit and just let people be who they want to be, and that would definitely make this world a better place :)

(blah blah BLAH!)
