Okay well.. Derby is now over and I’m sure for the other parts of the country it’s not that big of a deal, but here in Louisville, it’s a pretty awesome weekend.
In times like this, it’s good that there are still lucrative things that a city can benefit from. I’m sure that every year around Derby, the hotels book every room, restaurants and other businesses prosper from the visitors, and of course, Churchill Downs makes money from all the races!

The Derby attracts an array of people!
Not to mention that all the bars will for sure benefit from the visitors. Normally here, the bars close at 4 a.m., which is already much later than most areas. However, Derby weekend (Oaks and Derby night), the bars are open until 6 a.m. Yes, people… 6 a.m. And don’t even think for one second that the bars die down and it’s not packed until then. I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually stayed out until they kicked people out [on Derby that is..], but I certainly did this year!

Monday after Derby weekend. Oh yeah.
There’s so much going on around here during Derby week, I’m kind of sad to be “back to reality” and having everything just… normal again.
It’s always fun to have random stuff going on, and not that this city is boring by any means, but things like this just make for more things to do, of course.
Wondering if I won big this year since the winner was such a long shot? Okay so you don’t give a crap, but I’m going to tell you anyway. No, I was rooting for Summer Bird but mainly because we did a pool drawing at work and that’s who I got.

Summer Bird
My horse came in 6th place, but.. who cares? Ha ha, I would have only won $40 and I only lost $2 so, whatever. But since the winner, Mine That Bird, was a 50-1 shot, I can only assume that plenty of people hit it big at Derby 135.
I have been on all ends of the spectrum when it comes to Derby: I’ve attended Derby (however I haven’t been in the infamous infield, I was lucky enough to land some box seats by the finish line one year!), and I’ve worked at Derby (bar tended in the Paddock), and then of course I’ve not been there and just went to Derby parties! Ha ha, obviously I made money from working there, but didn’t have a “fun” experience, being that I was working 15 hour days without one break at all. In the end, I’m glad that I’ve done all that, but I probably won’t ever work Derby again, haha, maybe I’ll attend again but my favorite part of the Derby even being here is just the before and aftermath! So until Derby 136…

We like, we like to party!
Word.
