5The Black Pacific *album review*
The Black Pacific
Jim Lindberg – vocals/guitar
Alan Vega – drums
Davey Latter – bass
It seems like Jim Lindberg parted ways with punk rock legends, Pennywise (of which he was a founding member), and a few blinks later The Black Pacific was born. Â According to various sources, Lindberg left Pennywise over creative differences and not wanting to tour quite as much as the band wanted to. Â Well, for all the Lindberg fans out there, don’t fret! Jim wasted no time in starting a new project, writing, recording and getting more music out there. Â Welcome: The Black Pacific
Their debut (self-titled) album will be released in September, but I’ve had a chance to listen to check it out and I can tell you that if you like Pennywise… you’ll dig The Black Pacific. Â When I first stuck the album into my CD player, I was like, “Oh, this sounds like new Pennywise…,” which you can’t really hold against Jim because he WAS the voice of Pennywise, hence him singing in a new band will obviously have similarities. Â He also isn’t one to stray from his punk roots, so of course the new project is punk rock. Â However, as odd as it may sound, Jim’s voice is reminiscent of Deftone’s vocalist, Chino Moreno, in some screaming parts of the album. Â So while we have the same ol’ Jim, he seems to be exploring different vocal stylings, which is what makes the album seem the most different than his previous released with Pennywise.
You can still expect the same, punk rock, anti lyrics with lines like, “I thought I was using the system but the system was using me,” from the track, System. Â TBP had released two tracks off the album, System and When It’s Over, so you can head on over to their MySpace or official website (links below) to check them out.
Side One Dummy picked up on the new band and is releasing the album. Pick it up or order it online this fall!
