Although PETA stands for “People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals” you’d be surprised at what’s really going on. This was another entry inspired by the ever-so-popular Buzz Killington. I hadn’t heard of this website before, www.petakillsanimals.com, but I am so glad I did. I’ve always heard rumors about PETA being shady and not true to their purpose, but I didn’t have hard statistics and numbers to back up my theories.
Anyway- here we go:
“Things are never what they seem, are they? Listening to some Tampa Bay radio recently, I heard a crazy statistic. I thought it couldn’t be true.. ‘Peta kills 90% of the animals it took in 2007, with 19,200 animals from Dec 2007- Dec 2008.’ What? How could this be true when there are so many great stars that support PETA! They are famous and beautiful, I don’t think they would lead me the wrong way [please sense the sarcasm, if you're really dense]! Like Pamela Anderson (FYI: botox is tested on animals), Playboy’s Holly Madison (so talented), and Jackass’s Steve-O (oh, I’m sure he’s neverdone anything questionable to an animal!). Tommy Lee, Dennis Rodman.. the list goes on.
So, I decided to look up some facts. I saw that PETA has an annual income of 30 million dollars. Shelters in Virginia Beach near PETA’s Norfolk headquarters saved 65% of their animals in 2007 while PETA found homes for less than 1% of the animals. I’m no celebrity but it seems with a 30 million dollar a year income, you could do a little less ‘shock’ and a little more saving animals. Further reading led me to a group of doctors and scientists who were against PETA. This group is known as the P.A.A.P.coalition (Patient Advocates Against Peta).
These are the people working on and trying to cute H.I.V. and AIDS viruses, and guess what? They need animal testing. Would you prefer human testing? Didn’t think so. They wouldn’t be anywhere near where they are without it and they won’t be able to go forward without it either. The P.A.A.P. wants us to know how “stars” can protest and demonstrate for PETA when they claim they support cancer research? That’s a great question! What do you do when you’re saving the world and your trend conflict? Well, they may have been wrong on this one, but at least celebrities can still tell me how to vote! [yes, kids, sarcasm at its finest]”
If you’ve ever seen a PETA ad, you’re fully aware that they use the “shock and awe” method of advertising. Almost every single advertisement they do contains either graphic images of animal cruelty or attractive, mostly nude women. Is the message not enough? Why do they have to be so drastic in advertising? Yeah, people like naked, beautiful women so their ads are pleasing. But what does PETA actually represent? One of the head honchos at PETA happens to also be diabetic. How do they think their diabetes medication is developed? Magic? ANIMAL TESTING! But shockingly enough, they don’t mind to use medicine to save their life that was tested on animals, but they can tell everyone else that it’s wrong. Hypocrisy at its finest, once again. This society is just.. one huge disappointment after another. Can we please try to remember that celebs are PAID to tell us things? How can we trust what they’re saying when it’s on TV? They are paid to endorse products all the time. A “viewpoint” can be seen as a product if the “endorsees” has enough cash.
