0Album Review: Dwarves “Take Back the Night”
review by Denise Borders (PWV)
It’s been four years since the Dwarves released new music (they released a live album in 2015 but it did not have new material), so I was eager to get my ears on their latest release, Take Back the Night (Greedy Media). The album was released February 9th so grab your copy from the band’s website or Amazon. Be a part of history by owning the first Dwarves album featuring people that have clothes on.

I have to admit, the first track on this album, Forget Me Not, is my favorite. It really gets stuck in my head. I’m a little disappointed that my favorite song was the first one because as I listened to each following track, I didn’t like it as much as that one, but they still weren’t bad. City by the Bay sounds like a classic Dwarves song that could’ve been on any of their albums, which is how I feel about most of the other tracks.
Some of the tracks are barely over 40 seconds long, so don’t run to the bathroom or anything while you’re taking a listen, you might miss something. I must say, I have listened to this album through and through, because it is, as the Dwarves are, catchy as hell. They are an undercover pop band that sings about dirty stuff and inspires you lock your doors even during the day, and you gotta love ’em.
I like the track Everything and Moore also because it sounds like ten songs overlapped with each other, and I have always liked sort of chaotic songs that never let you catch up. It’s only 44 seconds long so, even if you hate it, shut your eyes and it will be over soon. Or well.. hit skip. The whole album goes by pretty fast, so if you’re digging it, it’ll be on repeat over and over I’m sure, and if not.. well… don’t listen to it again. You do you.
I’ve seen the Dwarves live in the past few months and they played some of the new stuff, and it sounded great. I hope this band sticks around for a while because they sure don’t change (in a good way). Reliable, foul mouthed dudes old enough to be your dad and still sound superb after over 2.5 decades of this shit. *salute
