Banner Pilot
Nick Johnson
Nate Gangelhoff
Corey Ayd
Danny Elston-Jones
Spawning from the collapse of the Minnesota dumpster-punk band, Rivethead, Nate Gangelhoff and Nick Johnson formed Banner Pilot in 2005. Releasing their first full-length on Go-Kart Records, the band is now releasing a new album, and their second album to be released on Fat Wreck Chords. Well.. they are actually RE-releasing the album, which they have remastered, bringing the sound quality back up to really compliment the lyrics and overall musicianship of the album and band as a whole. Resignation Day was their original first, full length release, and now it’s even better the second time around!

If you want to be taken back to a better time for music, then listen to this album. Bands like Hot Water Music, Screeching Weasel and Jawbreaker have influenced these guys, and it shows in their music. Â They have that classic, punk rock sound that makes you think of a time when music wasn’t about wearing your girlfriend’s jeans, borrowing her flat iron and all that crap. Â Banner Pilot is typical, old school Fat Wreck Chords, which is a GREAT thing.
The opening track, Overwinter, is such a good start to the album. Â Upbeat, catchy guitar with a sing-a-long worthy chorus. Â You can’t ask for much more from a punk rock album if you ask me. Banner Pilot is the kind of band you can see yourself with you arm around your buddies, singing along with your beer raised up, just not worrying about anything else in the world but having a good time.
Tracks like Saltish Luck are slowed down a bit, which is not uncommon for a good punk record. All in one, there is not ONE song I dislike on this album. Â It really brings back old memories with old friends, and I love any album that triggers a good memory. Â Check it out, folks. Â It’ll bring out the punk rock kid in ya.
