BENIGHTED’s sixth album hit the stores on March 21st (March 29th in the US). The French death metallers’ new opus is entitled Asylum Cave and tells the story of a schizophrenic man and the abysses of his delirium about Josef Fritzl.
This reviewer loves a hard hitting production and the guys of Benighted have done their homework. Asylum Cave, Benighted’s latest release, is relentless and delivered as a frenzy sure to appeal to many audiences ranging from traditional black metal, metalcore, progressive, thrash & grindcore audiences. Breakbeats, sweep picking, blast beats, dual leads, pig squeals and death growls compliment this black thrash metal five peice. Augmented metal riffs reminiscent of early December & Canibal Corpse meets Slayer (and yes there will be blood at this live set). Seven strings of harmonic mayhem proven effective by this Balbigny, France Death Metal/Grindcore band’s effort. Shred till you’re dead ladies and gentlemen. ‘Les Murderous.

France’s BENIGHTED deliver their most adventurous album so far: 12 tracks of pure Death/Grind mixing brutality and groove, featuring guest vocals from Svencho (Aborted) and Mike Majewski (Devourment). Ever since 2000’s self-titled debut, the band’s evolution between every album has been blatant, even though it was clear that BENIGHTED was promised to a brilliant future when “Psychose” came out in 2002. But it was their third album “Insane Cephalic Production” (2003) that definitely established them as one of the leading bands of the European extreme metal scene. Being invited to prestigious festivals such as Hellfest and Nuclear Fest and sharing the stage with the likes of MORBID ANGEL, DYING FETUS and DEICIDE only crafted their will to be even more dedicated to their art.
“Identisick” (2006) and “Icon” (2007) thus received overwhelming critics, both from the press and the fans, and took the band across the roads of Europe. After playing on famous festivals such as Obscene Extreme, SummerBreeze and Neurotic Deathfest, BENIGHTED are ready to unleash new masterpiece, Asylum Cave. Showcasing the fastest and most violent songs the band ever wrote, this sixth album tells the story of a schizophrenic delusional man and each track deals with a part of his life. His obsession with Josef Fritzl leads him to create an unreal world in the basement of his house, and… wWell, just prepare for nothing more than an avalanche of technical madness and sheer brutality!
