Boozehounds/DIY Split review

Boozehounds 7″ Transatlantic

Not Shy of the DIY Records

Available Now!!

This four way split 7″ is jam packed with an orgcore feel that sticks to the basics of UK punk and US 90’s pop punk. If you don’t think that is a sound that can happen you are sadly mistaken. Calvinball and The Dauntless Elite grace their presence on this split from the UK, while Mayflower and Rumspringer are from the US.

Calvinball give you that great punk rock ballad with “If You’re Buying”. A song that you can chant with all your bros, drunk 2am while you’re chugging your last PBRs of the night. This song is one of the best from this split because of the good times it sounds like it can bring you.

Rolling into “Primark Princess” from The Dauntless Elite, you think it’s out of place with it’s slow melodic guitar intro and jazz cymbal taps, but then and explosion of guitar and chuddy bass kick in and it’s all over. With the energetic vocals and easy sing-a-long chorus, this song comes in at 1:46 and it only leaves you wanting more.

Mayflower’s “Open Container” blasts into a pounding drum snare that carries this song like your favorite 90’s pop punk band. Then about half way through the song you get that rhythm section solo that makes the vocals stand out. This song falls a little short for this split 7″ for me but it’s still a great song.

“Killer Boots, Man” from Rumspringer is another one of my favorite tracks from this split. It has the perfect combo of melodic vocals, guitar, and standout bass line that gets inside your head and just won’t leave. Reminds me of my favorite Jawbreaker and Samiam tracks. Great pop punk track that you’ll be singing for days.

All in all this split is badass, and you can’t go wrong with it.
