Devo: The Complete Truth About De-Evolution DVD Review

71uddE+SRvL._SL1005_

After getting to see these guys live at Punk Rock Bowling last year (photos here), I think it’s fair to deem DEVO some of the true original weirdos of music. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this DVD, but I can tell that I wasn’t disappointed. This is a band that I can say I know pretty much nothing about.  The DVD features tons of music videos that I’ve never seen before that totally take you back to the late 80’s/early 90’s style music videos (I’m 29 years old, get over it).  Devo is a band for me that I don’t even realize sing certain songs.  Secret Agent Man? TOTALLY BY DEVO.  They’re most know for Whip It but they have many more hits that everyone knows.

Anyway, that’s beside the point.  I realized that from seeing them live to be honest. Hearing their set list was like one surprise after another and left me saying “I didn’t know Devo sang this…” so there ya go.   Onward about the DVD! I couldn’t help but think that this would be such a great gift to give someone that grew up in this era. There’s stuff on this DVD that I highly doubt are even available on the internet, and I’m sure it would take a lot of people back to watch this stuff.  Again, I am re-solidified in my thought that Devo is truly the original weirdos of music. The creepy masks and baby voices are a nice touch.

You can buy Devo: The Complete Truth about De-Evolution on the distributors page, MVD Visual. It dropped February 11th, so it’s available now. On top of the slew of music videos, the DVD features early live gigs, commentary with the band, an interview with the director, Chuck Statler, Devo photos and more.  I highly recommend it even for people that don’t consider themselves Devo fans. It’s a great watch for music fans in general. I think it’s a chance for us to see a band be original back when being original was still a thing.  In today’s music, it seems like everyone is just mimicking someone else whether they do it well or not.

If you do watch Devo: The Complete Truth about De-Evolution, then please tell me about it! Tweet at me or post on the PWV Facebook wall. I wanna hear what you think!
