For every reason I can’t explain, I really enjoyed this album. Maybe it’s because I Have 14,251 songs on my ipod but can’t think of a single one I want to listen to. Or maybe it’s because I drank about 3 months off of my life last weekend. Whatever the reason, everything on paper about Drive A leads me to the dislike button, yet upon listening to them, I find myself strangely drawn to the repeat button.
Dead Conflict Records is responsible for Drive A’s World in Shambles the much anticipated follow up to their debut album “Loss of Desire” which was released in 09 amidst great fan fair. Drive A has been able to top themselves, something hard to do in this genre. The band’s main goal in creating this album was simply to capture their energetic live show and transfer all that energy into something that could be felt through your speakers. I say “simply” tongue firmly in cheek, but the way it comes off makes it sound like an effortless task.

The songs on the World in Shamblesseamlessly switch between being clean cut and precise a la “Let’s Have A Wreck” to dirty I want distortion on everything, scratchy demo vocals songs like “Belligerent Time Bomb”. The World in Shambles kicks off with the fast and furious “Revolt!” and has only one hiccup in its hold over you. At about 27 minutes into the album, you get hit with the unneeded track “Silent Security”. It seems genuine enough and is an attempt at the “rockers ballad” but a chorus of “We don’t owe you a fucking thing” is sophomoric and played. Unfortunately I can already see hundreds of sweaty kids with their bics in the air singing aloud to Drive A’s worst song, thus encouraging that kind of song writing.
Drive A is one of the only bands that are able to blur the line between punk rock with garage rock yet keep the music tight. Many bands have come in and tried falling squarely on their faces. I look forward to their progression and can say that I will be purchasing their next offering, I suggest you do the same.
