1Dump the Hump!
Today, the planned ‘peaceful protest’ took place at Santa Monica’s sushi restaurant, The Hump. Led by Ignite/Pennywise frontman, Zoli Teglas (who’s also Volunteer Music and Outreach Coordinator for Sea Shepherd), along with Kurt Lieber, Sea Shepherd board member, and Grace Ko, director of operations for Pelican Rescue Team, the crew picketed around the joint during its lunch rush. I made it just in time to catch the tail end of part one of the protest (part two was scheduled to occur during their dinner rush, around 5:30 PM).
Dump the Hump, Whale isn’t Sushi, Serving Whale is Illegal, were just a few of the signs posted up at the protest.
The restaurant is not only perturbing animal rights’ activists, but The Hump is, in fact, violating a Marine Mammal Protection Act for selling endangered whale species as delicacies. Whether I am as gung-ho as others or not, it makes me happy to see people that are passionate about something. So, DUMP THE HUMP!!
