Engel is back with their second album, Threnody. The Gothenburg five piece feature members from In Flames, The Crown and The Haunted; which leads me to their sound. The vocalist, Mangan Klavborn, sounds a lot like the singer from Linkin Park but with a heavier edge, but also goes the growl/scream direction as well, like on songs like Down and the title track, Threnody, which also happen to be my two favorites on the record. They also have really catchy songs like Feed the Weak and For Those Who Will Resist. Throw in a couple ballads like Heartsick and To the End. All in all a pretty catchy modern metal album with a little bit for everyone . All the songs work well together with energetic grooves , some great solo’s and some nice melodies. If a heavier Linkin Park meets a lighter At the Gates is your bag, I suggest you pick it up. It hits stores January 11! These guys should be big after its release!*
