review by Andy Harrison

This is the first time I have heard of Islander. Islander is a band from Greenville South Carolina. The band consists of 4 members and they are signed to Victory Records. I would put them in the Nu Metal category.

VR701

1. Counteract
2. The Sadness Of Graves
3. Coconut Dracula
4. Cold Speak
5. Pains
6. Kingdom
7. Side Effects Of Youth
8. New Wave
9. Criminals
10. Mira
11. Hearts Grow Cold
12. Violence & Destruction

Violence and Destruction is a step towards radio friendly Nu metal compared to their 4 song EP – Pains. This band screams P.O.D. and Deftones. I like the Deftones but have to say I’m not a fan of Islander. I think this was good 10 years ago.

The first thing I notice on this album is the production value. It’s amazing. Very well done. The guitars have a perfect metal tone with a deep sound. The vocals are pouring with emotion. Drums sound so good and pound so damn hard. The bass is perfectly recorded as well. There is one stand out song for me. It’s called Coconut Dracula. It starts off with a bass rolling baseline and some great guitar work. Mikey the lead vocalist sings very well and most of this song is singing and not screaming which I can dig. “I want to be someone more like you.” The lyrics do not exactly speak to me in any way.

“I see corpses upon corpses. These streets are paved with bodies.” Again I can not get past lyrics like this. I do not find this to deep.

To wrap this review up I would not buy this album and I would not tell anyone to buy this album. I am not a fan of Islander and I do not like this type of Nu Metal. Victory Records has gone downhill since the days Snapcase and Strife. I respect Islander as awesome musicians and hope the best for them but no thank you.
