Leftover Crack vs. Emmure
Okay, people. I never would have imagined Emmure and Leftover Crack being compared to each other in any way, shape or form but HERE WE ARE. If you keep up with metalcore/screamo/stuff news at all, I’m sure you’re aware of the controversy surrounding Emmure frontman, Frankie Palmeri. Besides the fact that at one point, this dude had ONLY his throat and hands tattooed whilst the rest of his, much softer then, body was untouched by ink, there are a few annoying characteristics about him.
In a recent MetalSucks article, the rivalry between founding Emmure guitarist Ben Lionetti and Frankie is discussed. This gave me more details on the whole situation and why I kept seeing shit about Frankie and Emmure in my Facebook feed. Well, that and the majority of my Facebook friends have absolutely the worst taste in music…. but anyway…
The gist of it is that the latest Emmure album features a track called Bring a Gun to School. This is clearly a very bold song title in that it’s clearly wrong to bring a gun to school and many people have lost their life or the life of a loved one to a school shooting. Lionetti claims that Frank is a “disgusting human being” for naming the track such. What confuses ME personally is…. what about the rest of the band? Do they not have a say at all in the song names? Either they lost the battle or just flat out don’t have a say…. or they didn’t give a shit and just went with it. I don’t know and I honestly don’t really care.
What brings this piece of metalcore drama to my attention is that Leftover Crack has a song called Rock the 40 oz off their Fuck World Trade album from 2004 (video below).
In this track the first line is, “Shoot the kids at school / All in a bloody pool.” I immediately thought of this when I read the article about Palmeri and the song title, and I thought, “It’s already been done, what is the big deal?” And then I remembered that Leftover Crack is a crusty punk band that only people that listen to punk give a shit about and Emmure is a stupid metalcore machine that was created to make money and appeal to little kids that aren’t even spending their own money.
Leftover Crack didn’t get away with everything so easily though with their Fuck World Trade album. Many stores such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Circuit City and Music Land (wtf is that) refused to sell the record due to its controversial title and cover combo. But you know what? That is the sort of shit people except from a shithole like Scott “Stza” Sturgeon. It’s just the way it is.
GG Allin threw poop on people and punched women during his set and it just became the norm with him and you knew what to expect if you were within a 50-foot radius of the man. I think the same goes with this situation that due to the nature of Leftover Crack, it wasn’t such a big deal for them to say something like that. However, Emmure does it and everyone’s like OH MY GOD HE IS THE WORST PERSON EVER. Guess what, everyone? It’s music and people can pretty much sing about or say whatever they want just like I can type whatever I want in this post. It’s the beauty of a creative industry. Many people have their songs written for them, so at LEAST this band is writing their own music.
Anyway, whatever. I’m pretty much saying that who gives a shit about Emmure and Leftover Crack is awesome and they pulled this shit already so let’s all move on. Feel free to comment below or tweet at me with your opinion on the whole thing.
