No Good Reason is a band from Almeda Portugal that started in 2006, recorded some demos and did some touring in 2007. The band went on hiatus from 2007 to 2010 and are now back in the scene.
I’m not usually a fan of Hardcore and it always takes something special to drag me in. From the moment Far Away begins playing i am hooked. “Monument” has that distorted metal guitar sound (that always gets me), followed by the furious drum pounding. But as soon as the vocals chime in i am thrown for a curve ball, the singer has a voice that has hints of Craig Owens (Chiodos/D.R.U.G.S.) but i soon forget once i realize the music helps carry the singers voice. With his High pitched vocals supported by in your face musicianship “Monument” isn’t half bad.
“College” has more of a pop rock feel to it with some harsh vocals; definately the more diverse track from this EP. The vocals are extremely hard to make out in this song, I could only make out every other word; Having such a hard time hearing the lyrics the music stands out much more on this track. Good melody and easy to swallow for a new comer to melodic hardcore.
“Tuesday=Nowhere” is my favorite song from this EP for multiple reasons: the energetic sound, the quick dirty bass that slips in and slows the song down less than a minute in, and finally the hardcore yells i’ve been waiting for happen. The song starts and you are immediately thrown into the intense thrashing of the hardcore scene. The way the guitars are wailing and the way the beat is being carried, you can only imagine what this song would look like being performed live.
The melodies from Far Away are definitely what draws me to No Good Reason and the fierce mic clenching hardcore screams (from “Tuesday=Nowhere”) makes me wish there was more of that on this EP. Lyrically it was mediocre, but it’s only an EP so you know or hope that a full length could only get better. No Good Reason is a band that i am eager to hear more from because if Far Away is only a preview of what’s to come you know that No Good Reason isn’t close to being done.
