Queers Guitar Player Responds to Bassist Fight: “Move along folks. Nothing more to see here.”
If you’re into the punk scene at all and you have any sort of social media, it’s highly likely you’ve heard about the August 9th Queers show in San Diego when the band got into a fight with the bass player, Dangerous Dave, on stage and ended up finishing the show without him. I had a chance to catch up with Chris Fields, the guitar player that initially pushed Dave after his multiple stammers into him. Check out what he had to say below.
PWV: Have you ever had issues with “Dangerous” Dave before the August 9th show?
CF: No. Me and Dave go back a long way. We were in Jon Cougar Concentration Camp together. I recorded and played on The Bugs albums with him.
PWV: What was the last straw that night?
CF: The last straw was when he bashed me in the lip with the bass. MY bass. I didn’t know if he did it on purpose or not. After watching the video, I think he probably just accidentally stumbled into me, but I had no idea at the time.
PWV: Have you spoken to him since?
CF: Yeah, Joe and I both talked to him. He apologized and so did I and it’s all good. I feel bad for him but he shoulda known not to drink that much.
PWV: Is the band currently seeking a replacement bass player?
CF: Well, Dave hasn’t played full-time in The Queers for about a year. Neither have I. We invited him to play that particular show because it was his home town and all. The rest of the tour it was me on bass. We have a lot of different versions. Sometimes I’m on drums and Dave’s on bass.
