S.O.S. “I Owe You Nothing” Review

S.O.S.

S.O.S.

Scott Vogel (Terror) on vocals

Matt Henderson (Agnostic Front/Madball) on guitar

Sam Trapkin (Trapped Under Ice)Â on guitar

Chris Beattie (Hatebreed)Â on bass

Nick Jett (Terror) on drums

This album title along made me stoked to hear it, but not to mention the fact that the members have already each made their mark in the hardcore world. Â I like, or have at least heard of, all the bands these dudes hail from, so that was a positive right off the bat. Â The fact the record is being put out on Good Fight is another positive. Â They are a pretty solid label, so I was eager to jam this shit into my ear drums.

Available 6.19.2011

Track List:

Decontrol [intro]
Keep Me Outside
Part of the Disease
The Hard Truth
I Owe You Nothing
Never a Brother
Choking on Dust

The first thing you will likely think when this album starts is, “Well… sounds like Terror!” And that’s because it does. Vogel has a pretty distinguishable voice, and any hardcore fan will be able to recognize it right off the bat. Â If I had to pick the biggest difference between the two, I’d say S.O.S. is a bit faster than Terror. Â They [S.O.S.] don’t have quite as many slow, hardcore breakdowns… but they’re there, don’t fret!

The title track, I Owe You Nothing, is one of the first ones that really stands out.  Something unusual about this record is that almost all the songs are under two minutes long, so you really whiz right through the damn thing! Part of the Disease is another track I like, but it’s more because of the lyrics than anything. It’s very HARDCORE-ish in it’s words, like, “We don’t fight for the same things, you’re part of the disease. We don’t fight for the same things, why don’t you get the fuck away from me.”  The entire album sort of follows this lyrical direction… as I said, very standard for hardcore, especially Vogel.  This is NOT a bad thing for someone like myself that is actually an avid Terror fan. Yup.

In a mere few weeks, this album hits stores/online and if you’re a hardcore kid at heart, I say GO FOR IT! If you’re not a fan of these guys’ current/ex bands, I would say it’s probably not your cup of tea. Â But I’m into it so, HEY GOOD FIGHT, GOOD JOB!
