Samiam + Thrice + Texas is the Reason = Felled Trees
I often roll my shit-brown eyes at “all-star groups” but this one is TOTALLY DIFFERENT. Anything with Samian and Texas is the Reason involved has to be awesome because… let’s be real: those two bands fucking rule. Toss a little Thrice in there and I ain’t even mad. Other bands involved in this collab include The Jealous Sound, Last Days of April, No Motiv, Suedehead, Knapsack, and RX Bandits.
To celebrate Dinosaur Jr’s 20-year anniversary, an all-star cast of band dudes are collaborating with Siren Records for a front-to-back cover album called Where We Been (released in 1993 on Negro/Sire Records). The group is going by the name Felled Trees, which sounds like some weird hipster bullshit to me but I will get over it.
The lineup includes bassist Ed Breckenridge (Thrice), guitarist Sergie Loobkoff (Samiam, Solea, Knapsack), and drummer/producer Roger Camero (No Motiv, Peace’d Out) with vocal appearances from Garrett Klahn (Texas is the Reason, Atlantic/Pacific, Solea), Jason Beebout (Samiam), Blair Sheehan (Knapsack, The Jealous Sound), Karl Larsson (Last Days of April), Davey Warsop (Suedehead, Beat Union), and keys courtesy of Steve Choi (RX Bandits, Peace’d Out).
This project originally formed between Garrett Klahn and Sergie Loobkoff as a simple bedroom recording. After connecting with Siren Records, Roger Camero and Ed Breckinridge joined and the rest came on board shortly thereafter.
Sergie Loobkoff commented:
“This was originally meant to be something small with Garrett and myself when he was in LA doing the Texas is the Reason Reunion – probably some acoustic guitars, a few mics, some keys, and Garageband,” says Loobkoff on the origins of FELLED TREES. “We intended it to be called Solea, actually – a small reunion of sorts. Once we got in touch with Siren, who connected us to Roger, and we asked Eddie to play bass – suddenly we had a band, a label, and a studio.”
The record will drop October 15th and will be available exclusively via the Siren Records webstore. There will be some limited edition vinyl pressings also – 250 turquoise, 250 white and 50 clear (exclusive bundle-only pressing w/ autographed jacket). Fans are able to pre-order the record and even enter to win the only acetate pressing of the record.
