Someone Made a March Madness 90’s Punk Bands Competition and You Can Vote!
These are strange times we’re living in right now. Everyone is doing their best to stay sane and ration their snacks. One Canadian punk-fan has taken to Instagram with the ultimate 90’s punk band face off, organized March Madness bracket-style. I am so into this and also extremely jealous that I didn’t come up with it myself.
You can predict the winning brackets as well as cast your votes via his Instagram stories. The next round of voting will be today at 4pm PST today (3/29). Voting looks like this:
Votes are combined to determine winner. It’s set it up much like March Madness where it’s not just the top 64, but some Cinderella lesser known bands in there. A list of 64 bands were put together 4 divisions of bands were made, ranked 1-16. Voting will have a 15 second clip of the 2 bands and then a poll for voting. Voting open for the 24 hours the story is up for. Closest votes have been between AFI and Lagwagon and Good Riddance over Face to Face. Shieeet.
Ricky, the creator of said events, commented: “Major fuck ups for not putting in Satanic Surfers at first (we put them in for round 2 after discovering Thrice didn’t really start in the 90s). Also snubbed Death By Stereo, Snapcase, 88 Fingers Louie and others. Love to hear what other bands people think we should have included. Big split between people who loved mid 90s vs late 90s. Almost exactly at age 38.
I’m also going to plug his friend’s new single, Dancers and Queens, because I said I would.
