August 19-20: PWV went to the 2011 Sunset Strip Music Festival in sunny and dirty West Hollywood. I might have been the only one with a hair style not popular in 1982, but I still had a fan-fucking-tastic weekend. Glam fans united with the 90’s grunge fans mixed with the hip-hop fans and it was just one big happy music family. Aww. If I wasn’t dead inside, I’d feel all warm and fuzzy.
Contrary to other popular festivals such as Warped Tour, SSMF is swarming with middle-aged, barely dressed music fans. Such a great change! Shew! With bands like Motley Crue and Public Enemy, you can’t exactly expect a 13 year old to beg his mom for the $55 entry fee. However, this fest must have made a killing because it was PACKED. The fact that a crew was up all night setting up the stages and everything was astonishing, watching the Sunset Strip transform from a regular Mecca of Poison look-a-likes to… well… Mecca of Posion look-a-likes but the streets were closed down and filled with lighting and staging equipment. HIYYOOO.
