Had I known 5 years ago that when I moved to San Diego I would have to give up my record label, band and promoting gigs, I most likely would have reconsidered. I was lucky enough to cut my chops in the Pomona and LA hardcore scene and to say culture shock got the best of me in San Diego would be a huge understatement. All I got here was nice weather and metric tons of shitty reggae music. Every once and a while I would be able to see a show or two at Che, but for the most part I had to make the journey back home to see a good show.

My outlook has done a 180 with Take Offense the little band from the border town of Chula Vista. This 5 piece has already made a name for itself with its full length release Tables Will Turn, and played shut notable fests as Black and Blue Bowl. But what I like most is their ability to cultivate a scene in San Diego as well as their throwback style.

Available March 20, 2012

Tracklist:
1. My Sacrifice – 1:02
2. (We All Live) Under the Same Shadow – 1:12
3. Serving My Time – 0:57
4. T.O. Zone – 1:24

Take Offense has decided not to keep everybody waiting too long and released a 4 song EP entitled Under the Same Shadow. This EP pretty much picks up where they left off with their full length, however they were able to engineer the vocals a bit too much. Sonically they remind me of Cro-Mags, vocally kind of a basterdized version of Scott Vogel mixed with Wes Vincil. At times it can get a bit singy, which I prefer it didn’t, their prior album was able to disguise it much better.

Over all this is a strong EP, not as good as Tables Will Turn, but it does its purpose in getting your attention and leaving you wanting more. Creating a prebuilt buzz for anything that is up and coming from Take Offense. The only change I would make is swapping the much better title track Under the Same Shadow to the opening track and moving My Sacrifice somewhere towards the end. At any rate I for one will be patiently awaiting what comes next.
Reaper Records is the responsible party for releasing this EP. Do yourself a favor and pick it up from them. Reaper’s site boasts of many preorder packages featuring different shirt designs and vinyl colors.
