The Black Pacific live @ The Key Club (10.15.10)

Formed by previous members of Pennywise and Dropkick Murphy’s, The Black Pacific is sticking to that classic, punk rock sound while still bringing us new tunes to check out. Â I’m digging their self-titled, debut album (available now on SideOneDummy), and I was eager to catch a live show to see if they live up to their studio sound.

Verdict? Â Two thumbs up. Â I go to a LOT of shows and listen to a lot of bands, and The Black Pacific is sounding just as great as they do on their album when you’re standing ten feet away from them (or in my case, crawling all over the stage to get photos but stay out of the way… story of my life). Â I like that you don’ t have to be 20 years old to still have great energy on stage, and these guys proved it last Friday night at The Key Club in West Hollywood.

I was told it was only their fifth live show, and they had great chemistry and really sounded put together like a seasoned band. I mean… yes, they have been in other bands, but throwing band vets on stage with other people can really throw things off, or you can be like “Man, he was so much better with…” and I didn’t get that feeling at all. Â Just a good, old fashioned punk rock show.

If you ever get the chance to check out The Black Pacific live, I highly recommend it. However… if you aren’t a fan of Pennywise (pre-Zoli), then it might not be your style. Â But whatever your musical flavor, go to a show, have a beer (or seven), and have some fucking fun.
