I never felt an ounce of disappointment from the time I pressed play from the time it ended. Â I never was a huge TGUK fan, even in their prime; but I saw them live about two years ago on their reunion tour promoting their Something to Write Home About album and I was impressed with their live show. Â Typically, I’m not an indie music kinda’ person, but they just have that likable sound, and this new album sort of puts me in a music trance (not in a candy kid kind of way, THANK GOD).
The Widow Paris is one of my favorite tracks because it’s unique and still has that TGUK vibe. Â These tracks won’t make any old fan mad, that’s for sure. Â They’ve progressed but not really changed much, so they still have that familiar sound but still fresh and different than their previous albums. Â There Are Rules seems a bit more electronic than their older stuff, maybe? As I said, I’m not really familiar with all of their albums, so I’m kind of listening to this with brand new ears towards the band.
Tracks like Rememorable are more dancy, catchy songs that are probably really fun to hear live. Â It’s a great ending track because it’s upbeat melody is fun and memorable, and makes you want to hit repeat. Â I am definitely planning to hit up a show if they’re in the area, and I’d recommend it for anyone.
