The Meatmen

The Meatmen were a Michigan, United States punk band headed by Tesco Vee from 1980 to 1997.
They made fun of the hardcore punk scene of the time. The band was known for their stage antics, and for songs with colorful song titles such as “I Sin For A Living”, “1 Down, 3 To Go” (a reference to the murder of former Beatles member John Lennon), and the Suck Trilogy of “Crippled Children Suck,” “French People Suck,” and “Camel Jockeys Suck.” They also covered “What’s This Shit Called Love?” by The Pagans, as well as The Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now?” for the compilation The World Still Won’t Listen: A Tribute to The Smiths.”

Members

The band had a revolving door cast, with leader Tesco Vee being the only constant. Other members of the band included Brian Baker and Lyle Preslar of Minor Threat, Todd Swalla of Necros, Rich and Greg Ramsey, Jim Forsey, Eliot Rachtman, Mr. X, Mike Achtenbourg, Graham McCulloch, Eric Zelzdorf, Stuart Casson, James Cooper, Mark “Gooly” Kermanj, Norman Voss, Mark Davis, Mark Glass, and Rob San Pietro.

Reunion

New touring members are Ian “The Pit Viper” Sugierski on drums (of Superchrist, Wastelander, and Wolfbait), Dave Malosh on guitar (of The Sirens, The Paybacks, Bill Parker & His Motherscratchers, Wolfbait), and Andy “Lord Vapid” Lucas on bass.

***
I received a Meatmen DVD for Christmas and watched most of it the other day (it’s like, 3 hours long!!) and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed. I hadn’t heard of them before, even though they’ve obviously been around for quite some time now. I love bands that aren’t afraid of being hated and say what they really feel. I’m so tired of these “punk rock” bands that are bunch of hippies that love PETA and try to be as non-controversial as possible. Ugh, stop being wussies!!

Ha ha, I mean come on? Where are the true punk rockers that don’t give a shit to say they don’t like something? The Meatmen are pure, hate rock and I love it. I’m not a negative person or anything, but I just highly respect people that say how they feel, especially when they know that the majority of people won’t take kindly to it. It’s truly not caring what people think. “I don’t care what people think so I don’t eat meat and I am GREEN!” Blah blah, wahh-wahh, cry me a river, people. I am not a bad person just because I love steak and drive to work everyday. However, most of the “punk bands” out there today seem like huge wussies. I put quotes there because I don’t, obviously, believe they are punk, they’re just trying to seem cool and appeal to a certain crowd, so they pose so be so but, in fact, are not. So sad.
