Out of Portugal, Reaching Hand delivers a traditional approach to hardcore music with the fresh edge of a female vocalist. Front woman Sofia O’s feminine yet powerful vocals mixed with energetic and intricate guitar riffs sound like a mouthful of honey-laden razor blades tickling the ear drum. While this might be some kind of oratory wet dream for some, it could also be off-putting for those seeking a more familiar hard-core sound. Threshold is fast, furious, and to the point. It is as if the band has made their utmost statement and spared us the bullshit songs that so often get packed like pesky love-handles around the perfectly great ass of some records. More does not always mean better in the world of music, and some bands could learn a thing or two about quality over quantity.
Overall, I think Reaching Hand is a group with great talent and some great potential and it will be interesting to see how they grow. I would recommend giving this one a listen for sure. And if you hate it, well then you can blame me for wasting a measly 9 minutes of your life.
