3Top 10 Albums… and more!!
My Top 10 Albums
(in no particular order)
Released on SST Records, Damaged is Black Flag’s first full-length release. In 2003, the album was ranked #340 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. My personal favorite tracks are “Rise Above†and “TV Party.â€
Released on Asian Man Records and overall received great reviews. In March 2008, the band re-released the album as a deluxe edition with new artwork, packaging and a bonus DVD. Personal favorites of mine from this album are San Franciscoâ€, “Nose Over Tail†and “Cringe.â€
Their sophomore album, released on Vagrant Records. Unlike their first album, Kezia, it does not revolve around a single concept. The band states that it is “less poppy and more technical metal.†I love “Sequoia Throne†and “Bloodmeat.â€
Released on Alternative Tentacles, LOC had left Hellcat Records to have more music/lyrical freedom. The album received mixed reviews, and is highly offensive to many people. Some of my favorite tracks are, “Rock the 40 oz.†and “Soon We’ll Be Dead.â€
Released on Epitaph Records, and ultimately reached #97 on the Billboard 200, despite its little mainstream success. It has been described as “sheer energy†and received four out of five stars. My favorite tracks are “Salvation†and “Dope Sick Girl.â€
A compilation of the “greatest†Descendents songs, released on SST Records. It serves are a stopgap between the end of the band and the birth of ALL. The songs range from being recorded in 1982-1987. Some personal favorite tracks, “Silly Girlâ€, “I Like Food†and “Good, Good Things.â€
Released on Fat Wreck Chords, it was GR’s third full-length album. Contrary to the album’s title, there are no ballads on the track list. That same year, the band toured with Sick of it All and AFI. Favorite tracks include, “Salt†and “Choices Made
This album was released on Victory Records. It was #27 on Top Independent Albums. This is the last album that featured Scott Wade on lead vocals (Andrew Neufeld [guitar/bass] took over). The title track was featured on the videogame Burnout Revenge. Favorites include, “Losing Patience†and “Final Goodbye.â€
Released on Hopeless Records. The band formed in the spring of 1993 and ended up calling it quits in the middle of a tour in 1996. Members went on to form other successful bands such as Alkaline Trio, Rise Against and Zero to Sixty. Favorites include, “Punk Rock Rulebook†and “100 Proof.â€
Just missed the cut…
(in no particular order)
Released on Distort Entertainment/Equal Vison, it’s AOF’s second album, showcasing a more structured sound than their previous release. With growling screams of George Petit and melodic harmonies from Dallas Green, AOF creates a unique, hardcore sound. “No Transitoy†and â€Happiness By The Kilowatt†are some of my favorite tracks.
Hellcat Records released the band’s only full-length album. It’s generally dark and satanic, and was widely popular in the ska/punk scene, and members went on to form other successful bands, including Leftover Crack. My favorite tracks are, “500 Channels†and “Money.â€
Abacus released the album, continuing the band’s southern California, hardcore sound. In 2007, Century Media released a special tour edition that included two bonus tracks, along with different artwork. Check out, “My Judgment Day†and “Let it Burn.â€
