0Top 10 Albums: Native
Bobby Markos of Native brings us today’s Top 10 Albums. Â He even went as far as to give us a little tidbit as to why he chose these specific albums.
TAKE IT AWAY, BOBBY!
*Boards of Canada – The Campfire Headphase*
*Effectively changed the way I listen to music today. Super stripped down
guitar tones with warm electronic beats and keys behind it. Think 1970’s
California.*
*The Samuel Jackson Five – Easily Misunderstood*
*Probably the best instrumental album ever crafted. Flawless transitions and
instrumentation; post-rock done in an interesting manner.*
*My Bloody Valentine – Loveless*
*This is the cornerstone of “shoe-gaze”, the album that really put it on the
map. Tones and production that will never be replicated, it sounds like
you’re listening to music behind a waterfall.*
*In The Face of War – We Make Our Own Luck*
*This is the album that made me “get” hardcore music. Melodic at times but
above all holds intensity and positivity.*
*Q And Not U – No Kill Beep Beep*
*This is the album that helped make me the musician I am today. Raw, noisy
guitar tones matched with DC style dance beats, one of Dischord’s finest.*
*Sunny Day Real Estate – Diary*
*Although it got grouped in with the grunge era due to it’s proximity, I
think this album helped open the floodgates for a lot of what is existing
today. One of the warmest recordings I’ve ever heard, technical yet very
approachable.*
*Jose Gonzalez – In Our Nature*
*My favorite singer/songwriter album to date. Nothing flashy here, just
getting back to the essentials of folk: a person telling a story with voice
and guitar.*
*Nirvana – Nevermind*
*I won’t lie, if I never heard this album I’d probably never be playing bass
today. It’s a classic, became the prototype for a generation.*
*Converge – You Fail Me*
*While ITFOW helped me understand hardcore, this album revolutionized it for
me. Definitely different than any heavy album you’ve ever heard, they really
out did themselves on this one. Flawless tones and production.*
*Smashing Pumpkins – Siamese Dream*
*Is it just me, or does this sound like “Loveless” with clearer production?
Anyway this was a huge part of my high school life and still continues to
move me. Great melody and just the right amount of feedback.*
