1Top 10 Punk Albums: A Criminal Risk
It’s been a minute since PWV has posted any Top 10 lists from a band, so here to break the dry spell is A Criminal Risk. Frontman Tom Kunzman expressed his Top 10 Punk Albums of All Time. Check it out!
TOP 10 PUNK ALBUMS OF ALL TIME
via Tom Kunzman, A Criminal Risk
1. The Clash- The Essentials
I love this because it’s basically like saying I love every album for different reasons in one lazy answer. They had a different topic in every song and a really unique way of thinking and speaking their minds.
2. Green Day- Dookie
My dad gave me this abum when I was 8 or 9 years old. They got me into playing guitar and singing. They still influence me to this day with their newer material but Dookie is what inspired me to do what I now love to do.
3. Rancid- …And Out Come the Wolves
Every single song is amazing on this album. Everything from the guitar tones to the raw vocals and catchy melodies. Rancid are the kings of blending ska and punk rock with a little rhythm and blues all on one album.
4. Social Distortion- Sex, Love, Rock & Roll
Reach for the Sky, Highway 101, Nickels and Dimes. That is all. Best Social D album quality, lyrically, and songwriting wise.
5. Alkaline Trio- Damnesia
This album is cool because it’s so different. You can tell they did it because they’re at the point in their career that they’re capable of anything and if they want to re-write and re-structure the best songs from every album acoustically, then they will and they did.
6. Blink-182- Self Titled
This album isn’t exactly punk but at the same time, they went against what everyone was expecting them to do and it’s by far their best album. Creatively and in terms of quality. The songs are a lot deeper on this one then on previous records they’ve done. Every song is phenomenal on this one.
7. Gallows- Grey Britain
Gallows are one of the truest punk rock bands out there right now. They’re not shy to adopt the more hardcore vibe that was around in the punk scene back in the 80’s and modernizing it their own way. It’s extremely aggressive and outspoken with no shame. This album might be one of the best albums to come out of London since ‘Never Mind the Bollocks..’
8. Rancid- Indestructable
I clearly really like Rancid…anyway, this album is cool because it was a change from the many abrasive, in your face records that came before it. They had some great lyrics on this one and awesome stories to tell along with music that puts you in a great mood. ‘Through Music We Can Live Forever’ is one of the most inspiring lyrics I’ve heard on any album from any band.
9. Billy Talent- Self Titled
Ben’s vocals, the lyrics are honest, the guitar work is amazing, the songs are extremely well written and every single song is amazing and is played very well live. Billy Talent doesn’t know how to write a bad song.
10. Anti-Flag- For Blood and Empire
Another really honest and outspoken album as most are from Anti-Flag. They reminded me a lot of the Clash when I first heard them. They had really cool harmonies too.
