Top 10 Reasons it Sucks (AND Rules) to be the Only Girl in a Band

1) I get along much better with guys, so I’ve always loved being the only girl in the band! It’s like riding in a crew with my brothers, ha!
2) I love how the music is off set with female vocals being the only girl. I try to have a different approach to singing, not super girly, or manly.. But unique. And with a guy to back up my vocals definitely sets us apart – I love it.
3) I couldn’t care less about being “done up” all the time. Mind you, I like makeup, but being with all guys all the time has made me speedier to prepare in the mornings – I pack less and try to be efficient!
4) I’ve always loved being one of the guys. Being treated like I can’t do something because I’m a girl never flew with me. I believe a lady can do anything she puts her mind to.
5) Sometimes borrowing clothes doesn’t exactly work, so that’s crumby. Ha! No one wears my size, so if something gets ruined I basically have to get something new!
6) Now and again when I run out of deodorant, I have to borrow one of the guys’. It’s actually kind of comical to me. I like a nice candy smelling scent typically, but if I have to borrow theirs I smell like I just came out of an Irish Spring, ha!
7) Being the only girl, stopping for toiletries is completely opposite. But because I’ve travelled with them all so long now, I’m used to it. Guys can basically pee anywhere they like and I either have to hold it, or go outside. And believe you me, I’ve gone outside.
8) Keeping the van clean is sometimes an adventure. I’ve definitely helped the guys to keep things picked up and somewhat organized. But every now and then, we let it go, and have to spend like an hour fixing it all again, haha!
9) I’m always cold, like, perpetually cold. And I feel like I’m always announcing it in the van, asking for the heat to be turned up. I don’t think anyone stays as cold as me, so actually getting the heat turned up and staying there is always a pain. I think the guys just stay warmer than me!
10) I love the particular guys that are in my band. I honestly don’t think I could be in another band that meshes as well as we do. We’ve been around each other so long; traveling, writing, playing… That if it were anyone else it’d be like that odd ball tool that makes its way into the shed. The way we are together is unique. We’re very close. We know each other’s temperaments, food preferences, styles we prefer, favorite bands, driving abilities, the silly stuff. But that’s what makes best friends, best friends. You know the big stuff, but the small stuff is what completes it.
