0Will Punk Rock Picnic Actually Happen This Year?
Southern California is a mecca for amazing festivals. When I moved here five years ago, one of the first “blow my mind” festivals I went to was Punk Rock Picnic 2011 featuring Cro Mags, Dwarves, TSOL, and many other iconic bands. The next year, I bought a booth so I could promote PWV even more in addition to taking photos and so on (2012 coverage). I even had my own stage!
Now, it seems like it was all fun in the sun but at the end of the day, I had all of my banners stolen (including the 10’x2′ stage banner shown in the photo). I understand that these things happen sometime, but the response was almost like it was my fault somehow, despite the fact that security should have noticed a bunch of kids ripping down expensive banners. But anyway…
The following year, bands were announced (which included Danzig and GWAR) and then the show was abruptly declared cancelled and all ticket buyers were supposed to be refunded. I don’t recall anything in 2014 being announced, however the 2015 lineup is now up and is set to happen Saturday, June 27th in Long Beach, CA. Do you think it will actually happen? I’m going to say this guy doesn’t, but you can be your own judge.
With bands like Cockney Rejects, Discharge, the Meatmen, Agent Orange, Bonecrusher and so forth, how could it get canned? Only time will tell, I guess. I definitely won’t be purchasing any kind of booth space again, since I lost more money in stolen goods than I made last time, but even my attendance is still up in the air. You can check the festival’s Facebook page to keep up with the status of everything or if you’re interested in purchasing tickets.
