Russ Rankin Signs with Paper & Plastic
Good Riddance / Only Crime frontman, Russ Rankin, will be releasing his debut solo album via Paper & Plastic Records. The record is entitled Farewell Catalonia and will drop at the end of May. Fresh off the huge announcement of a Good Riddance reunion, I’d say this would be a swell time to release a solo record. For a while now, Russ has been hitting the road solo with pals such as Tony Sly (No Use For a Name), who’s had a successful solo career. Goddamnit I love that 90’s Fat Wreck Chords shit!

I’ve been lucky enough to catch some of his solo tours and I must say, I am legitimately stoked for this album. I love that some of my all-time favorite bands from growing up are still making music, whether it’s as a whole or the members creating new projects. There’s just something nostalgic about it and I love love loooooove it.
The album has already been recorded at Buzzbomb Sound Labs in Orange, CA. Rankin had this to say about the upcoming release:
“Recording a solo album is completely different than recording with a band. I learned a lot about my strengths and weaknesses both as a songwriter and a guitar player,” Rankin says. “Watching these songs, which had gestated purely from myself with no collaboration, develop and grow has been an incredible experience.”
So get your excited pants on and patiently await Farewell Catalonia which will drop May 29th on Paper and Plastic Records. YES.
