Implants “From Chaos To Order” Album Review (punk)

Implants is a band that I’ve covered quite a bit since their formation in 2011. From my first interview with them to my numerous videos of them performing live at the Vandal’s 17th Annual Christmas Show… I just love these dudes. I was stoked to listen to their debut album, From Chaos to Order and I think any pop-punk fan will dig this!

The record starts with Life Passes, a track I am already familiar with from seeing them play it live.  It’s a great melodic track with quick drums and a catchy chorus. This band is really a breath of fresh air.  They don’t give a fuck about what everyone else is doing musically, they give a fuck about what THEY are doing. This song is a great representation of the band’s sound. Blinded follows and from the get-go has a different sound than the first track.  It’s another song I’ve heard them play live and it makes me realize how great this band is live, because the recorded tracks don’t sound that different at all! This one is nice and fast but still has those melodic choruses that make it so easy to listen to. This album sounds like it came out in 1998 and that’s why I love it so much already.

I love the intro to Through the Window. This band is really doing something new with something old. They are making brand new pop-punk melodic tunes combining all the memebers’ previous band’s sounds into one new record. This track is my favorite of the three so far. It’s so damn catchy!!!

Once Was I is a song you’ll sing along to before finishing the first listen. It’s a little slower than their other tracks, but it’s so smooth and catchy. Ken has such a great voice, and it’s not just on the record. Catch an Implants show and you’ll see that they aren’t studio musicians, these dudes can actually play their instruments and Ken sounds superb live. This track is clean and I like it.

Mutualism has such a rad intro.  I think listeners will really enjoy the variety this band brings to the table.  This track more than the others reminds me a lot of a Strung Out song. As I mentioned, it’s like the guys combined every aspect of their respective bands (Strung Out, Pulley, Ten Foot Pole, Death by Stereo, etc…) and smushed it into one band. The end of this song is just fucking great. The drums with the overlapped vocals just sounds so cool.

Bleed Within is a classic 90’s pop punk song. It’s got lyrics I’m sure we can all relate too, and it’s also a great live jam! The track is one of their slower tunes, but still sticking with their slick melodies and catchy choruses.  It’s a nice middle track to settle you into the record. It also has a sweet guitar solo, you just gotta take a listen for yourself!

If you’re familiar with my reviews you know I eventually stop going track-by-track because I know people have the attention span of a wet log (especially when it comes to reading), so let’s just get through this so you can go buy the damn record already!

Stuck Around is a track that I’m not sure if I heard them play live or not.  Most of the other tracks, I was already familiar with from hearing live multiple times, but this one seems all new to me and I really dig it. It’s fast, which I love, and never lulls or makes me bored. I love the upbeat sound this band brings to the table.  I really think fans will be stoked on this record. Puppet Regime is another fast song, which is the side of this band I love. Chris Dalley is a great drummer and I think he excels most on tracks like this.

Skipping to the final track on the record, El Ron makes you think you’re in church with the intro… then it’s like JUST KIDDING Y’ALL.  I’ve heard this song live a bunch and it was always one of my favorites. The drums in this track are killer and it’s another song straight outta the fuckin 90’s.  Not one song on this album bummed me out, they are all bangers and I think for people like me that love that 90’s Fat Wreck Chords sound, it’s just a sigh of relief that there’s a band out there still wanting to make music like this.

You can buy the record now from many sources including their label, Cyber Tracks, which is founded by NOFX guitarist El Hefe and his wife, Jennifer. Do yourself a favor and pick it up and try to catch them on tour if they make it to a city near you.
