0Watch My 2011 Interview with Tony Sly and Get Chills
I had the honor of interviewing Tony Sly back in February 2011 when he was on a tour still promoting 12 Song Program. Please be kind… this was back in my early interviewing days and I was using a crappy camera and I had no video editing software so what you see if what you get! Even thought I was a really green interviewer, this was always one of my favorites, even before he passed away on this day in 2012. He’s so humble and I really got the impression that he was a sincerely nice guy. We spent a lot of time after the interview just talking and hanging out, which I felt was mostly because he knew that I came to that show alone to do the interview and he wanted to help keep me company before his set.
Watching this interview really gives me chills. He mentions things like “I’m only going to live ’til I’m 66” and he told me he would write a new No Use record just for me, with a smile and a laugh. There’s a question toward the end that really gave me a chill.
PWV: “You’ve been making music for over 20 years so how do you foresee the next 20 years [while you’re still alive]?”
Tony: “Hope I can just keep playing music because it’s all I know how to do.”
I can’t believe he passed away a little over a year later. I know we’ve all said it, but the music world lost a truly wonderful person and his music will definitely live on. The Pizza Chief will always be remembered. <3
